Governors
Welcome to the Governor section of our school website. I have had the privilege of being Chair of Governors for the past 17 years. During this time there have been many changes to the role, a lot of which make the role even more demanding. I can honestly say I enjoy every minute of it and have been extremely well supported by the other governors.
There are 14 governors made up of school staff, parents of children in school, Lancashire County Council and foundation governors (elected by the Blackburn Board of Education and Morecambe Parish Church, Parochial Church Council).
We are a Voluntary Aided School. This means the Governors have responsibility for appointing staff, as well as making sure that the children who come to our school are given the best possible start in their education. I meet regularly with the Head Teacher and keep in regular contact with all the governors ensuring they are kept well informed.
Governors have a variety of knowledge and experience which ensures that we can draw on these when having to make our decisions. All governors are volunteers and as such receive no financial reward, but make a huge sacrifice in carrying out their roles.
As a Board of Governors we meet each term. This is a legal requirement. We have several committees who look in more detail at the different aspects of school life, who in turn report to the Board of Governors each term.
