The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to schools by the Government with one central aim: to improve outcomes for socio-economically disadvantaged pupils. This funding is allocated for every eligible pupil in eligible schools, enabling us to direct resources towards the specific needs of these children so they can thrive.
However, the Pupil Premium is not a personal budget for individual pupils. Schools are not required to spend the funding exclusively on those who meet the eligibility criteria. It can also be used to support other pupils with identified needs or to deliver whole-class and whole-school interventions that benefit all learners.
Planned Expenditure
Our evidence-informed approach to Pupil Premium spending enables us to:
- Learn from how similar challenges have been successfully addressed in other schools
- Evaluate the strength of the evidence behind different strategies
- Assess the likely cost-effectiveness of various approaches
We follow the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) tiered model, which prioritises:
- Improving teaching – ensuring high-quality classroom practice for all pupils
- Targeted academic support – providing additional help for pupils who need it
- Wider strategies – addressing non-academic barriers to success, including attendance, behaviour, and social and emotional wellbeing
