At Poulton-le-Sands, your child can choose between a healthy hot meal cooked on site or a packed lunch brought from home. Our talented cook, Lesley, prepares delicious meals every day, and we encourage all children to try them. We want every child to leave school happy and fully fed.
School Dinners
- Cost: £2.50 per meal (for KS2 children; see below for KS1).
- Your child does not need to have a school dinner every day—they will choose their lunch each morning at registration.
- Our menus change every term and run on a three-week rotation. The current menu is published below. You can also call the school office for a copy.
- If there’s something you’d like to see on the menu (within reason), please let the office know.
- Allergies: If your child has any food allergies, please inform the school office. Under Food Information Regulations (effective 14th December 2014), information on all allergens in our meals is available. Please speak to a member of staff at the office or Lesley if you have any concerns.
Please note: All food brought into school, such as birthday cakes or treats, must comply with allergy guidelines.

Universal Free School Meals (KS1)
Since September 2014, the government provides free school meals for all Key Stage 1 children (Reception, Year 1 & Year 2).
If your child is entitled to free meals based on benefits, it is vital to continue claiming them. This helps the school receive Pupil Premium funding, which significantly impacts the education we can provide. If you are unsure, please contact the school office and speak to Miss Coulton.
School Milk Scheme
Our school participates in a school milk scheme, providing a 189ml (1/3 pint) carton of semi-skimmed milk delivered fresh to classrooms every day.
Benefits of School Milk
- Provides essential nutrients such as calcium and protein for strong teeth and bones.
- Helps children stay hydrated and energised, bridging the gap between breakfast and lunch.
Costs
- Free for under-fives, thanks to government subsidies.
- Subsidised at approximately £15 per term for children aged five or older.
